I thought I'd try to write one more quick post this week. I have the best intentions to post on Sundays and Wednesdays (if you hadn't figured out that this was my plan, it's because I so rarely manage to make it happen), and it's Wednesday - this is good. But I won't be posting on Sunday (at least probably not), because (theoretically) I will be in Yosemite, sans internet. Why all the hedges, you ask? Well, it's because as of right now, the condo where we're supposed to be staying has no water. I can do without many things, but I admit to liking it when toilets flush. So we'll see how that goes.
Meanwhile, I have finished Leaving! Hooray!
I've even worn it in public. I can never tell whether the lack of comments means that the non-knitters with whom I spend most of my time think that it's just a sweater that one might buy in a store (in which case, a good thing), or think it looks kind of homemade and don't want to say anything (not so good). I'm happy enough with the way this one turned out - look, it fits! - that I'm going with the former interpretation.
I love the lace motif on this. Twisted stitches do such nice things to lace, don't they?
And look at that back! Pretty, like wings, no?
There's even one on each of the sleeves.
To recap, this is Anne Hanson's Leaving (link above), knitted in Woolen Rabbit Oasis, colorway Forever in Denim. I knitted mine on size five and size three needles. The camel/silk blend of the yarn means that this is a very light, but very warm, sweater.
There's another sweater that I just got some modeling shots of. Look! It's my mom!
There she is, in her Moonstruck. She says it's warm and it fits well. She might just be saying that because she's my mom, but she certainly looks good in it!
The sleeves are a titch long, hmph. I'll have to look at it on her when I see her this weekend.
Meanwhile, I'll post again with snow pictures when we get back!

Both sweaters are STUNNING!!!
Both sweaters look fantastic. The blue one really suits you.
Oh my!!! Well, you know I'm going to turn cartwheels over you having finished Leavings, especially in that, my very favorite colorway. It's gorgeous, and of course, it's because they thought it was store bought.
:)
Your Mom looks terrific in Moonstruck!
(and I hope you get to the snow, even tho' I'll miss you!)
(((hugs)))
Oh, I enjoyed seeing your mom - and she looks VERY happy with her sweater, as she should be. It is lovely on her.
And Leaving is just perfect for you - that color is wonderful, the style suits, and the fit is great. I especially like the view from the back - the lace creates a lovely flow in at your waist without being fussy.
I hope you have water this weekend!
Two lovely sweaters. Your mother looks very elegant in Moonstruck, but she looks as though she makes anything look elegant.
I'm sure they thought it was store bought. It doesn't have the 'made with loving hands' look for sure!
I suspect that if other knitters don't comment, it's because they are speechless with envy, and while I may often be envious, I am seldom speechless. 'Leaving' is lovely - lovely pattern, the perfect yarn, and beautifully executed. As is that post about your daughter. I hope the toilets in Yosemite flush, and that you have a wonderful time.
Maybe they don't say anything because they just don't notice!
Both cardigans are gorgeous. Well done.
Hope you manage to get away for your skiing trip.
Gorgeous, both of them! Very professional-looking work.
They both look wonderful, sometimes longer sleeves can be a blessing
just gorgeous, nothing less! i love both sweaters -- they're both in my queue -- so it's a treat seeing them in the wild. and what a treat seeing your pretty mom, too. :)
Beautiful sweaters, both of them. Leaving is also on my queue... your mom's sweater is stunning--so stylish! and with a lovely pin on the collar. Well done!
Flushing toilets are very important. I hope your cabin acquires one in time for your trip!
I love both sweaters. They look like they'll be favorites for a long, long time. In regards to comments, I have decided that non-knitters simply don't notice things like sweaters. It's inconceivable to me, but then I don't really ever notice purses, so I guess it's fair.
Both sweaters are gorgeous and very flattering to each wearer. if some non knitter thinks you could buy something that gorgeous...well, they are just delusional. jo
Your Mom looks gorgeous in her Moonstruck and so do you in Leaving. I wouldn't know what non-knitters think, I tend to make people admire my knitting. I veer between pre-emptive hurt feelings when they don't notice/don't like it or if I'm just a gloryhound. :)
Here's hoping you're in Yosemite tomorrow! With fully working equipment.
Beautiful and beautiful, both of you! The sweaters, too!
Two definite WINS!
Both sweaters are lovely! I'm inspired to attempt Leaving after seeing it on you. Enjoy Yosemite!
Hey Jocelyn! Your Leaving looks fabulous on you. Love the color. It motivates me to start thinking about mine. I've got the Oasis (purple chambord) all ready. . .just need to finish my second sprossling, monkey bread scarf, a couple socks, etc etc. You know how that goes. Hope all is well with you!
fantastic projects, I love the texture of yours, and your mum looks so great in hers .. .enjoy the snow, and belatedly wish T a very happy welcome to the world of teenagerism .... I can't believe she is growing up .... you are doing a grand job there raising her +
Those are both beautiful sweaters. I wonder at the lack of comments - your Leaving is a particularly beautiful sweater whether handmade or storebought.
Absolutely gorgeous. And I think no one commented because they thought you sold your daughters into slavery to be able to afford that gorgeous sweater at some fancy boutique.
Your Leaving is gorgeous! You beat me by a long shot, I haven't even swatched for it yet! I guess when I realized I was going to miss winter I just gave up until next year.
I hope you are happy with it, I'm glad you followed your gut and went down a needle size, it's just right!
Your mom's sweater looks lovely too, I hope she enjoys it!
